In May 2021, during lockdown due to Covid-19, my sisters and I got vaccinated and decided to rent a beautiful house in Friesland, in the north of the Netherlands. We ended up at the famous Tichelaar House in Makkum, belonging to the Tichelaar tile dynasty. The house was beautiful, naturally filled with typical Makkum tiles, and we spent a lovely weekend there. Unfortunately, the weather was terrible (cold, rainy, and stormy), not exactly inviting for long walks. But the house did offer a number of interesting objects to paint, such as this rather large earthenware jug standing in a corner, half-hidden behind heavy curtains. We cooked with olive oil and ate a lot of fruit, so a still life was not difficult to create on the large wooden table. In the background, I managed to give a vague impression of the Makkum tilework on the wall, specifically of a large sailing ship.
